Food Equity Data Project
Introduction
For this project, we focused on tackling food inequality by looking at data sets and creating possible solutions based on our observations. We decided to focus on this problem for our project because it seems to be a problem that consistently appears throughout the world and by working on this project, we could possibly help alleviate this problem. For example, through looking at data that was provided to us, we discovered that there other problems that could be associated with food inequity such as having a low income and targeting those problems we could simultaneously target food inequity.

One thing that stood out when looking at this data set was that the percent of people earning less than 15,000 a year in a given state and the percent of people that are overweight in a given state having a low correlation which was surprising since our group hypothesized that they were correlated. One thing that I learned from this discovery was that data is difficult to work with but can result in interesting findings.
Work Quality
In my opinion, I believe that the quality of my work has been consistent throughout the course of this project which includes the way I integrated math into my writing. In addition, the only times our group needed to massively change our deliverables are when we received critique or changed data sets.
Reflection
I don’t think this project changed my perspective on this issue since I have done similar projects in the pass. Over this project I also gained more practice with handling a data set so I am not as rusty as I used to be. I also self taught myself how to be a leader which was extremely useful for this project.
Critique
If I were to do this project again, I would have wanted to use the original data set that the San Diego Food Bank provided to use instead of the data from the Obesity Risk Factor Surveillance System since that would have been more relevant.
Key Moment
One moment that defined this project for me was when our group swapped data sets from the San Diego Food Bank to the Obesity Risk Factor Surveillance System. This was a key moment for me because the data set the Food Bank gave us was difficult to access and work with, so our group switch to another data set since it was easier to work with.
